Conflict of Interest

Most attendees at LMC  have some conflict of interest by virtue of being a GP representing the  practices of their locality. Increasingly with changes to the NHS, GPs are taking on other roles within PCTs, consortia, provider companies, deaneries and many others. The position they might adopt in these roles could potentially interfere with their representative function as an LMC rep. For any discussion representatives are therefore expected to identify and state in advance whether such conflict exists. This would not bar someone from speaking but would put in context the views they subsequently express.

LMC is used to hearing arguments from a particular perspective, and in fact welcomes this because it generally enriches debate. However, the drivers for a particular line of argument must always be visible to other committee members.
